After Tooth Extraction
Simple Tips for a Smooth Recovery
- Stop Bleeding: Bite on a gauze pad for 30–45 minutes right after surgery. If bleeding continues, replace the gauze and bite down again.
- Protect the Clot: Don’t rinse hard, use straws, smoke, or drink alcohol for 72 hours. These can dislodge the clot and slow healing.
- Control Swelling: Apply an ice pack to the area for 15–20 minutes at a time for the first 24–48 hours.
- Manage Pain: Take your prescribed medication as directed. Call us if it’s not helping.
- Eat Smart: Stick to soft foods and drink plenty of water. Avoid hot or crunchy foods until you feel better.
- Keep It Clean: After 24 hours, gently brush and rinse to keep your mouth clean—but avoid the extraction site at first.
- Rest: Avoid heavy exercise for a week.
