Post-Op: After the Removal of Multiple Teeth in Kissimmee, FL
What to Expect & How to Heal Comfortably

Recovery after multiple tooth extraction
Having multiple teeth removed is a significant procedure, and healing properly requires care and patience. Below are important guidelines to help ensure a smooth recovery.
Some bleeding is normal. To control it:
- Bite firmly on a gauze pad over the site for 30 minutes. If bleeding continues, bite on a moist tea bag for 30 minutes. The tannic acid helps form a clot.Avoid hot drinks, strenuous activity, and lying flat.Expect some oozing around your immediate denture—do not remove it unless bleeding is severe. If heavy bleeding persists, call our office immediately.
- Swelling is normal and typically peaks 2 days after surgery.Apply ice packs on the outside of the face near the surgical site for the first 36 hours only, while awake. After 36 hours, switch to moist warm towels to reduce discoloration and help the swelling resolve.
For mild discomfort:
- Take Tylenol and/or ibuprofen as instructed by our doctors if you do not have allergies to these types of medications.
For severe pain:
- Use the prescribed medication as directed. If pain increases after 2 days, please contact our office. If antibiotics were prescribed, complete the entire course, even if symptoms improve.
- Drink at least 6 glasses of fluid on the first day to help replenish your body.Stick to soft or liquid foods that are comfortable to eat.Gradually return to a normal diet as healing progresses.
- Do not rinse your mouth for the first 24 hours.Starting the day after surgery, rinse with warm salt water (½ teaspoon salt in a glass of water) every 4 hours and after meals. After seeing your dentist for denture adjustments, remove the denture and rinse 3–4 times daily.
Some post-operative symptoms are common and not cause for concern:
- Facial swelling and bruising around the eyes may occur.Sore throat or discomfort when swallowing is common and should improve within 2–3 days.Dry or cracked lips may result from stretching—apply Vaseline or lip balm.A slight fever may occur for 24–48 hours. If it lasts longer, call our office.
If dentures were placed the same day:
- Sore spots may develop under the denture. It’s important to see your dentist within 24–48 hours for adjustments.Avoid delaying this visit to prevent pressure sores that can delay healing.
